MMPlayer doesn't look like the screenshots in the manual.

You have a different skin installed (or none at all). A skin is a file that defines how MMPlayer looks and where the buttons are placed. You can usually do all the things described in the manual with any skin, it will just look different. Either find the buttons and controls in the skin you have by trial and error, or install the Gray skin and then select that skin using the Options->Skins... menu.

The audio and video are not synchronized.

MMPlayer sometimes fails to keep audio and video in sync. Compensate using the A/V Sync OSD setting, see OSD settings in the manual.

The audio volume is very low.

The amp slider has been decreased. Increase the amp slider. (Note that some skins don't have an amp slider. You may have to change to the default skin to see it.)

The hard buttons don't work

The "Use buttons" checkbox in not checked. Check the "Use buttons" checkbox on the video settings form.

MMPlayer crashes frequently.

Some users have problems with MMPlayer when some hacks are installed with TealMaster. Disable all hacks, or one at a time, and try again.

MMPlayer crashes when playing a certain file.

Some files need a larger video (or audio) buffer. Increase the video (or audio) buffer and try again. If it still crashes when the buffers are several MB each, feel free to send a short clip to support@mmplayer.com and we'll try to see what's wrong.

MMPlayer displays a fatal alert "DmWriteCheck failed".

MMPlayer failed to allocate sufficient memory to play the file. Free some memory by removing some applications or data from internal memory

MMPlayer displays the error "unable to initialize MMPlayerLib data. Please reset the device and try again".

Either you have installed MMPlayer on a memory card, or you have too little internal memory available. Make sure MMPlayer is installed in internal memory and that you have enough free internal memory. MMPlayer requires around 1.5MB of internal memory. Free space on external memory cards can not be used.

When I press "Add" in the playlist, there's no files to select.

MMPlayer doesn't list all files on the card but only those in the current directory. Browse to the correct directory to see the files you have installed on the card. The file selection dialog behaves just like a file selection dialog on a computer.

There's no way to browse to any other directory than the default /AUDIO

You're probably using the old version 0.1.0. This version is audio only and doesn't allow browsing. Upgrade to the latest version. See http://mmplayer.com

I *am* using the latest version of MMPlayer and I still can't browse to another directory.

Perhaps you need to use another font? If you use the half-size font but not bold nor large, it's quite small and you might not see the two dots representing the parent directory. Change to a bigger font, see the GUI settings in the manual.

I can't find AVI or MPG files I've transferred to my memory card with Hotsync.

When transferring movies using Hotsync (or Quick install) on newer Palms, the Hotsync conduit automatically converts the file to an ASF file that can be played by the PalmOS Media program. Please use another way to transfer the file to the memory card, some are described in the FAQ.

When I use the slider to move to a certain position in a clip, it just starts over from the beginning.

MMPlayer uses the index at the end of AVI files when seeking. If MMPlayer fails to read that index, seeking is not possible. Use a program called DivFix to rebuild the index. See http://divfix.maxeline.com/. Pocket DVD Studio sometimes write the index incorrectly, but this has been fixed in the latest release.

I tried rebuilding the index as described above but seeking is still not possible.

Long videos have a large index requiring much memory. MMPlayer might run out of memory while reading the index causing seeking to be disabled. Free some memory or split the movie into smaller parts.

I have lots of memory available but seeking still doesn't work.

MMPlayer may run out of audio buffer while seeking for the next keyframe. Increase the audio buffer. See the Buffer settings in the manual.

When I start MMPlayer, I get an error dialog showing (Sys 0505) (0, 1136).

You use a T3 but haven't installed the T3 compatibility PRCs. Install the T3 support files as described in the T3 device specific setup in the manual.

When I play a file, I get an error dialog showing (Sys 0505) (0,1115).

You use a Clie without the PalmOS standard audio API. You need to install MCA2 as described in the Clie device specific setup in the manual. (Don't forget to enable MMPlayer in the MCA2 settings)

After playing a file with MMPlayer, I can't access the memory card from either MMPlayer or any other application.

You use Launcher III. Please use Launcher X or some other launcher instead.
Registration

The key.pdb file has been installed but the registration form doesn't say it's registered.

The registration form doesn't change. The only change is that there's no nag text after playing for ~1 minute. Play a file for a minute and make sure there's no nag text.

My MMPlayer is suddenly unregistered again.

You have changed device or Hotsync ID. This will cause the MMPlayer ID to change and your key will not be able to unlock MMPlayer. Contact support@mmplayer.com and describe why you need a new key.

I sync my Palm to more than one computer and sometimes MMPlayer gets unregistered.

For some people, syncing to different computers causes the Hotsync ID to change. This will cause the MMPlayer ID to change, and in turn cause the key to stop working. Hotsync to the PC that makes MMPlayer to be registered. Then remove your user on the other PC. Lastly, hotsync with the other PC to recreate your user. Now, you should have the same Hotsync ID on both computers and MMPlayer should always be registered.

I have paid for MMPlayer. When will the key arrive?

We don't send the key via mail, we only send instructions to visit http://mmplayer.com/register and download a key from there Please see chapter 15 Registration in the manual for more info.

I have paid for MMPlayer but the notification mail hasn't arrived.

Some users, most commonly Hotmail users, have their spam settings too tight which causes our notification mail to be discarded. Try to download a key from http://mmplayer.com/buy anyway. See chapter 15 Registration in the manual for more info.

When I press "Get key" on the register page, I get an error saying something about unrecognized file type.

Some browsers, Netscape 7.0 is one of them, doesn't handle php pages correctly. Try another browser, like Mozilla or Internet Explorer. You may also try to save the php file to disk, and then remove the .php suffix so that the file is called "key.pdb". Then you can double-click on the key and install it.

When I press "Get key" on the register page, nothing happens.

If you use Internet Explorer under Windows XP and have installed SP2, it's a lot more picky about what it downloads. Check the top of the browser window when pressing the "Get key" button. You should see a line explaining what to do to download the file.

When I try to download a key, I get a message that my mail address isn't recognized.

This can have two causes. Either, you have entered a different mail address than the one you used for the purchase, or your purchase notification hasn't reached us yet. Double-check that you used the same mail address you used when registering. I.e. check your account at PalmGear, Handango, PayPal etc. If you are sure you used the correct email address, contact us on support@mmplayer.com and we'll fix it.

I bought MMPlayer at PDASSI and I can't download a key because my mail address isn't recognized.

For some reason, PDASSI assigns bogus addresses (XXX@esdorder.de) to people buying software from them. They claim it is to avoid spam but it's mostly confusing for the end customer and means lots of support questions for us. If you bought MMPlayer at PDASSI, you must remember the address they gave you, because if you need support from us later, we can't help you if you can't remember this address. If you can't remember it, you can ask them which address you were assigned.

My Palm lost all data (by a crash, repair or hard reset) and now my MMPlayer is unregistered again.

After losing all data, your Hotsync ID is reset, causing the key you had to stop working. Note that most programs use a registration key based on the Hotsync ID, so if it changes, all those programs will stop working. When doing the first hotsync after data loss, please select to resync all data from your old user. (If you have already started from scratch with a new user, perform a new hard reset and then select your old user at the first hotsync). After doing this, all your data including MMPlayer and the key will be reinstalled. If you have problems with a specific program, you may need to remove this program from your user's backup directory before the first Hotsync. The backup directory is usually in a directory similar to C:/Program Files/Palm/"UserName"/backup.
